PRESS RELEASE: The British Dancesport Federation (BrDSF) Official Statement
London, United Kingdom- Wednesday 5th February 2025
Information on how the new ETA (Electronic Travel Authorisation) works for Europeans travelling to the UK.
Starting from 2nd April 2024, European citizens (including those from the EU and EEA) will need to apply for an ETA before entering the UK. It’s a simple online process where you’ll provide basic details, answer a few questions, and pay a fee currently announced at £10*.
Once approved, the ETA will be valid for up to 2 years, allowing multiple short stays in the UK meaning you will not need to re apply for an ETA to enter the WDSF London Open on the 27th/28th September. The application process is quick, and you’ll receive confirmation via email. This is similar to the US ESTA system.
If you’re planning to attend the WDSF DanceSport Festival and require an ETA, make sure to apply in advance to avoid any issues at the border. Eligible Europeans can start to apply from 5th March 2025.
*Subject to ETA System Updates
We look forward to seeing you in Blackpool!

BrDSF aims to enhance the competitive experience by employing a cutting-edge judging system, designed to provide more accurate and transparent feedback, giving competitors a clear understanding of their performance. This system not only ensures fairness, but also aligns with the international standards set forth by WDSF and the Olympic Committee.
With BrDSF’s affiliation to the WDSF, British dancers can now compete globally recognised banner, paving the way for representation on the world stage, including prestigious events such as the World Championships and, potentially, future Olympic Games. The Federation is committed to nurturing talent from grassroots to elite levels, ensuring that every dancer, regardless or background, has the chance to
flourish.
As we look to the future, BrDSF will continue to foster a community that celebrates the art, athleticism, and the spirit of dancesport. The Federation is focused on creating opportunities for education, training, and competition, while advocating for the inclusion of a wide variety of dance styles under the British banner.
